Sunday's Best

Sunday’s Best is a California-based indie rock band, and… that’s about all I know about them. I got the CD Poised to Break on suggestion by a friend and have quite enjoyed it, though. It’s a lot like early Jimmy Eat World and the Get Up Kids, which means catchy well-written indie pop rock.

I love the line in “When Is Pearl Harbor Day?” – ” I hate nostalgia, it tries to hard to remember only the easy parts.” So true, so true. Here’s my two favorite songs on the CD, if you like them you can buy it all – here.

Death Cab for Cutie – Plans

I’m sure everybody’s heard of Death Cab, and you’re probably on your way to best buy to buy this CD right now, but I feel obligued to make a post about them since they are one of the best bands out there. They’re new CD is a fantastic edition, it grows on you and features many lyrics and themes to ponder.

For example,
The title, Plans, refers to the theme that every plan you make is like “a tiny prayer to Father Time”. Life is random, you plan on getting married, moving into a house, getting up the next morning, but you never really know. You could die tomorrow. That’s my take on it, at least. Pretty dark stuff, but it’s to be expected from this band.

Here’s two of my favorite tracks:

Copeland

The more I listen to this band, the more I am impressed by them. What sets them apart is Aaron Marsh’s vocals, which I’ve been heard described as “acrobatic” “angelic” “awe-inspiring”, and other words that begin with “A”. The music goes from modern rock to pop-punk to “emo” and then back again, it’s a very unique sound though. I’d compare them with some of Death Cab’s stuff. Here’s a couple tracks off of their second album, In Motion

Belle & Sebastian

Belle & Sebastian are a Scottish Indie Pop band with music that’s equally 60’s sunshine pop and progressive folk-rock. Words to describe them would be – quirky, soothing, intimate, good-natured. They are definitely an upper band, so if your listening to Bright Eyes or New Amsterdams and need something to cheer you up, I’d suggest putting a Belle & Sebastian CD in.

Here’s two tracks off their latest – Push Barman To Open Wounds

It's Indie Rock and Roll for me

One of the best emerging artists in the pop/rock world scene right now is The Killers. Ever since I heard “Somebody Told Me” in the Spring of ’04, I’ve been hooked on their glam-rock, dose of nostalgia, U2 meets The Cure sound.

I’ve had this track for quite a while, and it’s just now being released in the U.S. on the deluxe edition. It’s my easily my favorite song from the band and I’m glad it’s finally getting some recognition. Enough talk, here’s the song.

Kings of Convenience

I discovered this band through iTunes Free Music Downloads program, and was recently reminded how good they are when my place of employment (barnes and noble) added them to the in-store play list (Much better than playing Celtic Woman every day, much better)… The music is slow, folky with a jazz tint (trumpets and piano are main instruments), their voices reminds me of Simon and Garfunkle at times. I think Sufjan Stevens fans could really get into their stuff.

The Format

My first introduction to The Format was seeing them tour with Jimmy Eat World and Taking Back Sunday. They practically stole the show from the two headliners. I got their Cd and it’s great. Very catchy, fun music. Nate Ruess has a great voice. Put it on your ipod before you go back to school. Here’s two of my favorites from their CD, Interventions & Lullabies.

Zoolander 2 ?!?!!

so i read this today…

” Moviehole talked to Owen Wilson today – in Australia to promote the smash hit comedy “Wedding Crashers” – who revealed that he and Ben Stiller are in talks to do a sequel to the 2000 comedy hit “Zoolander”. ”

this is exciting news for me and anyone who ever enjoyed an orange mocha frappachino with their ridiculously good lookin’ friends with chiseled abs. (and if you couldn’t tell by my layout, i quite like the first zoolander)
